Bad news first: in StarCraft, Dead Pixels‘ Eloi “ElroyeSC2” Quach was eliminated at group stage with an overall score of 1:2. Unfortunately, also Qualitas Helvetica‘s Hearthstone player Yannick “YounTheory” Widmer does not make it out of the group neither. A threeway-tie between Switzerland, Korea and Vietnam has turned in favor of Korea, as their player has the better head-to-head results against the other two.

So all hopes lie with Dead Pixels‘ League of Legends team, who won their group B with three clear victories over their opponents from South Africa, Iran and finally Thailand.

Tomorrow they’ll have to go up against the runner-up of Group A, which is Israel, that was also in a threeway-tie with Mongolia and Chinese Taipei, but had the better end in the tie-break.

So that was day one. 1 out of 3 advance. Not great, but some teams have it worse. South Africa’s entire line-up, being one of the countries who traveled the furthest to attend the 7th e-Sports World Championship, have been eliminated from all three tournaments.
